This shingle-style Inn on the rocky Maine coast had been served by a liscenced Overboad Discharge (OBD) system since the early 1970's.  Wastewater from the Inn received primary treatment in a series of septic tanks prior to a sand filter, contact chlorinator, and eventual discharge into the

ocean.  Recent regulatory pressure to eliminate previously

allowed OBD systems coupled with the impending failure of the aged sand filter prompted the owners of the facility to have a septic system incorporating on-site subsurface disposal designed and installed.  The area of suitable soil was extremely limited due to very shallow depths to bedrock and the locations of surrounding water supply wells.  Installing a custom designed OxyPro wastewater treatment system allowed the system designer to reduce the footprint required for the disposal area by one-half.  The OxyPro was constructed using two HDPE 1500 gallon tanks as the poor accessibility of the site made the use of pre-cast concrete tanks impossible.  The Inn was able to abandon their polluting out-dated OBD in time for the start of the 2001 tourist season and even improve the aesthetic appeal and functionality of the Inn's rear lawn with the help of a quality excavating contractor.
