Installing (4) 9500-Gallon Processor Tanks

Installing Four 9500-Gallon Processor Tanks

Project Information

Date:      June 2002
Location:     Alfred, Maine
Facility:     York County Jail
Design Flow:     20,000 Gallons per Day
Wastewater Type:     Institutional

The wastewater disposal system serving the York County Jail in Alfred, Maine was in imminent danger of hydraulic failure due to a rapid increase in inmate population over the last several years.  Excessive nitrate concentrations from the jail's overtaxed existing system also threatened to contaminate the groundwater on neighboring properties owned by a local water

district.  Without sufficient area to replace and expand failing portions of the system or to increase physical setbacks from downgradient property lines, consulting environmental engineers retained by the jail recommended the installation of an OxyPro wastewater treatment system.  The purpose of this treatment system was to virtually eliminate the organic load on the existing subsurface disposal areas and reduce the total nitrogen concentration in the wastewater.  The OxyPro system designed by Aeration Systems, LLC consisted of four 9500 gallon processor tanks set in parallel configuration.  A microprocessor based control system operates the entire treatment system and provides 24-hour monitoring and remote alarm reporting for all mechanical components of the system.
